Cotton is Summer

Cotton is summer and

Sun on the wild.

And filling in my stagnant pores.

I am drenched in a dress

with a weight to my heart.

We watched the tree trunks pull

themselves through their heavy

shadows. Their fruit stretching

and sweetening in the bath

of midday light.

Your belly

full of bread and apples. The same apples

these sparrows softened

and carried in their beaks

back home.
